Sickle cell disease affects millions of children and families around the world. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that it affects around 100,000 Americans. They also estimate that sickle cell disease occurs among 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American and around 1 out of every 365 African-American births.

Fundraising for Sickle Cell Disease(SCD) is an inspiring and uplifting way to  save lives, support sickle cell research, improve treatments, and ultimately find a cure. Sickle cell disease has not received the attention and support it needs in order to find better treatment options and research to find a cure.
Sickle cell disease is more common in certain ethnic groups, including:

• People of African descent, including African-Americans (among whom 1 in 12 carries a sickle cell gene)
• Hispanic-Americans from Central and South America
• People of Middle Eastern, Asian, Indian, and Mediterranean descent
